KARACHI: 7th JUNE 2012:
The Academic and Social Circle of the All Pakistan Muttahida Students Organisation (APMSO) organised a book fair and a science exhibition at the Jinnah Ground on Thursday in commemoration of the 34th founding day of the organisation.
The two-day festival was inaugurated by Sindh Minister for Information and Technology Raza Haroon, which was attended by hundreds of people belonging to different walks of life.
Different international and local institutions put up their stalls with books on different subjects such as science, arts, medicine with a 50 percent discount rate.
The literary committee of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) displayed books written by party chief Altaf Hussain. CDs of the MQM’s history were also placed on stalls.
Later talking to journalists, Haroon said that at the age of 24 Hussain founded the APMSO in the year 1978 which benefited thousands of students. He said, “Pakistan could only become prosperous if the young students came in the forefront and we must get benefits from these bright students who are the future of the country.”
“Pakistan society is full of talent but to inculcate their ability, we lack resources,” he said.
The APMSO is the only student organisation which encourages young students in the light of Hussain’s vision, bringing them into mainstream for their better future.
The APMSO was founded on June 11, 1978 and the day had special significance as its ideology given by Hussain had now spread to every nook and corner of the country, he said.
Haroon said that Hussain was the leader of 98 percent downtrodden people and his mission was not confined to any particular group but had been promoted across the country.
Addressing the students, he said that the MQM chief wanted the students of today to run the affairs of the country and they must get rid of the feudal system.
